WRECK OF THE SUSANNAH ROSE.

[By Telegraph.] Blenheim, March 27. News esme in to Blenheim to-day that the schooner Susannah Rose went ashore at Flaxbourne last Saturday. She had all her canvas blown away on Friday night. At 3.30 on Saturday morning she struck near the month of the River Ure, six miles from Flaxbourne station. The captain and six men jumped off the jibboom into the surf, and battled their way to dry land. Four reached the station on Sunday morning, ami tho same evening went with the station hands in search of their mates. Two were found on Monday, but as tho captain was still missing, further -earth was made, and bis track found on the Ure river. His footmarks were followed for three miles along tho bank. When found ho was stretched at full length in a shallow p.iol amongst a patch of boulders in tho middle of river, tho ictervenicg current being very deep and swift. After a hard struggle tho men got to the captain and conveyed him to tho bank. He was stiff from exposure, and could not move a limb, it appears from the captain’s account that on entering tho river to cross the current carried him off Lis logs, and swept him down some distance. Ho managed to get hold of a large boulder and kick off his heavy sea boots. Afterwards be relinquished his hold and was carried to the shadow spot where ho was rescued. He hud been fifty hours without food or drink, and had relapsed into such a weak state that when his preservers wore within ten yards ho could not answer their calls. Great praise is given to the station hands fur the gallant manner in which they accomplished the rescue in tho face of the swollen torrent.
