LAND SALE.
On Saturday, March 27th, at Messrs. H. Matson and ..o.’s, Cashel and Hereford streets, ninety-seven sections in the township of North Opawa were submitted to public auction, Mr E. Walton wielding the hammer. The sale was held in the large and commodious woolshed, at the back of the offices, for the better accommodation of a numerous concourse of buyers. A champagne luncheon was provided previous to the sale. The attendance was very large, and the biddings brisk, and by the competition which existed throughout the interest in this sale was apparent and decided, every lot being sold, The terms were —10 per cent, deposit, 15 per cent, in twelve months, and the balance in five years, bearing interest at the rate of 8 per cent, per annum. Immediately after the above were offered at the same time and place six sections cf land in Bedford row and Cashel street, but the biddings did not come up to the reserve. Private offers have since been mads which may lead to business. A section of land with house at Kaiapoi was next offered, but withdrawn ; after which two sections of land in the township of Chortsey were offered, but n,it sold. It is probable these will bo sold privately.
