VOLUNTEER REVIEW.
The streets were enlivened yesterday by the appearance of the members of several of the Volunteer corps who will take part in the forthcoming review. The men that have already put in an appearance consist of the Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry and gome Naval Brigade volunteers, with one detachment of Artillery from Timaru. Wellington and Port Chalmers are represented by the blue jackets. Temuka hag sent twelve mounted men; Ashburton, one officer and nineteen privates ; Selwyn, Surgeon Chapman and nine privates ; and Rangiora, one sergeant and eleven privates. The Southern contingent were met at the Addington railway station by the local portion of the Volunteer Yeomanry Cavalry and escorted to Christchurch. Before dispersing to their billets they paraded through the city and presented quite an imposing appearance, numbering seventy men. It may be stated that the idea of disbanding the corps, which was entertained by the members some months ago in consequence of their treatment by the late Government, has now been abandoned, as the Ministry has acceded to their request for free passage by rail for the purpose of attending the review. In connection with the review Major Lean has issued the following memorandum: —“ For purposes of temporary administration, volunteers attending the review at Christchurch at Easter next will be formed into three battalions, and in Battalions Nos. 2 and 3, each corps will further be distinguished by a letter in that battalion, as set forth in list enclosed herewith.
