A telegram was received from them, however, stating that they were detained at Palmerston North by the floods, when on their way overland from Taranaki. It is probable that one of the Government steamers will be sent round to Foxton or Wanganui to fetch them, as there is no probability of the overland route being passable for several days yet. Extraordinary Flood. The river in the Manawatu gorge has risen 18ft., and is flowing over the bridge, which, to avoid the possibility of being covered, was constructed Bft. higher than any flood ever known previous to its erection.
