TEMUKA MECHANICS’ INSTITUTE.

The monthly committee meeting of the Temuka Mechanics’ Institute was held in the reading room on Friday, Mtrch 12th. Present —Messrs Hayes (chairman), Mendelson, McKay, Storey, Elliot, and others. The president laid on the table ten new books of members’ tickets, which were approved of by the committee. Proposed by Mr Storey, seconded by Mr Elliot, and carried —“ That separate books for yearly, half yearly, and ■quarterly tickets be supplied by the secretary to the librarian, the secretary to keep an account of the numbers of such books, and that the librarian, in his monthly reports of new members, add the numbers of their tickets as well as their names.” Resolved that the engraving “American Inventors” be framed and hung up in the reading room. Mr Elliot undertook to see to the matter. Mr McKay, in accordance with his notice of motion, proposed—“ That the librarian be allowed 10 per cent on all subscriptions collected for the institute from March 12_th, T 880.” Seconded by Mr Storey and carried unanimously. A requisition, signed by Messrs Storey, Elliot and others, was handed in to the secretary, requesting him to call at an early date a special general meeting of the members of the institute, to consider the advisability •of making some arrangements for the convenience of smokers, and also the desirability of building another fireplace.
