THE SAN FRANCISCO MAIL.

Our Wellington correspondent telegraphed on Friday night, Maroh 12th: —" The 5.3. Waitaki, which has the San Francisco mail on hoard, and which left Onehunga for the South yesterday morning, wbb unable to cross the Manukau bar, owing to the tremendous .sea which was running. She was still bar bound this morning and is not likely to get out of the harbor until ta-morrow morning at the earliest. She will come down direct to Wellington, calling only at Taranaki, so if she succeeds in effecting her exit tomorrow you may expect the mails some time on Tuesday. The delay is very unfortunate and vexatious, but no possible blame attaches to either the Union Company or the postal authorities, the hindrance being wholly due to stress of weather. On learning that the Waitaki was bar-bound, the Postal department at once endeavored to detain the Arawata, whioh left Auckland yesterday afternoon, and send baok the Waitaki to Onehunga, in order that the mails might be transferred to the Arawata, but unfortunately the Arawata had sailed before the necessary instructions reached Auckland. The southern mails go forward by the Arawata on Monday, and the Marlborough, Nelson and Westport portion by the Waitaki on Monday afternoon. The Napier and Eaßt Coast mails were sent on from Auckland by the Arawata and the Wellington, which left here yesterday for Nelson and Manukau, returns from Nelson to-morrow, via Picton, bringing on the Waitaki's Wellington and southern passengers. The Wellington leaves for New Plymouth and Manukau direct to-morrow afternoon.
