EDUCATION CONFERENCE.

The following circular has been issued by the East Ohristchuroh School Committee to the various committees in the North Canterbury Education District: —"The committee of the East Christohurch EduoatioD District have long felt that some amendment of the Education Act (without touching its main provisions) is necessary, in order to give general eatisfaction. Particularly they feel that there should be some alteration in the relation of the Board to the several school committees. They have therefore resolved to invite a conference of the several chairmen of the various committees in the North Canterbury Education District, and such members of the committees as may be able to attend, with the object of considering what amendments in the Act shall be proposed for the consideration of Parliament in its forthcoming session. The conference will be held on Tuesday, the 6th April, at 11 a.m., in the main schoolroom, Christohurch East." The subjects proposed for consideration at the conference are:— Glauses 45, 64, 65, 84, sections 1 and 2 of the Education Act, the incidental allowance to schools, and the relation of the committees to the Board of Education.
