A petition having been presented to the Governor, praying for a commutation of the sentence of death passed upon Joseph Wells, who was found guilty of shooting Wm. Murphy, with intent to murder, in connection with the sticking up of the National Bank at Ounnamulla iu January last, his Excellency has had the case under consideration, but has refused to commute the sentence of deathWells will bo hanged on Wednesday next. Prizes for New Zealand. First prizes have been awarded to the Kaiapoi and Mosgiel Companies for flannels and blankets. The Mosgiel Company has obtained the second prize and the Kaiapoi third in tweeds; Mosgiel first and Kaiapoi third prize in woollen' fabrics; Mosgiel obtained second prize for mats. Cook, of Wellington, for cord and rope; Beran, of Waikawa, for wool work; Lawless, of the Thames, for connterpane and table cloth; Jordan, of Dunedin, all obtained third prizes. Accident. Mr Stephens, mate of the steamship Wakatipn, has been seriously injured whilst engaged unloading the vessel. MELBOURNE, March 12. The Ministers. All the Ministers have been re-elected Gifford's Freezing Process. Telegrams to hand from London state that Gifford's refrigeratory process has been a brilliant success, and the results highly satisfactory. The meat has proved to be an excellent substitute. ADELAIDE, March 12. The Wheat MarketAdelaide wheat, 4s 8d per bushel; : Adelaide flour, £ll 5 s per ton.
