CATHEDRAL GUILD.

A general meeting of the Cathr-dral Guild was held in St. Michael's schoolroom last evening. There was a good attendance of ladies and gentlemen. The Kev. the Dean of Chriatchuroh, who occupied the chair, introduced the proceedings by referring to the present position of the Cathedral, remarking that upon the present occasion he had more cheerful news to impart with respect to the progress of the Cathedral than he had been in a position to give at former meetings. As most of them knew, a contract had been let for so far completing the building as to permit of services being held there, the amount of the tender being between nine and ten thousand pounds, and he might add that the contract had actually been signed by his Lordship the Bishop, as chairman of the Cathedral Commission ; so that the work would no doubt bo shortly commenced, and it was anticipated that they would be able to hold services in the Cathedral in about twelve months from the present time. "With regard to the Cathedral organ, he stated that the Rev. 0. Bowen (who was on a trip to Europe) had been commissioned to obtain the advice of two eminent musical authorities in England as to the best course to pursue in the matter, and it would be necessary to think seriously about raising funds for the purchase of the organ. He went on to remark that there was a deficiency of about £ISOO in the amount of the Cathedral contract whioh would have to be met, but was glad to say that there appeared highly encouraging indications of a rapidly increasing interest in the progress of this important work, which was making itself manifest by an earnestly expressed desire on the part of many influential persons to afford it substantial assistance, including an offer from Dean Stanley to supply the Cathedral font as a memorial to Captain Stanley, whose name occupied a prominent position in the early history of the colony. After referring to these matters as above, the chairman introduced Me N. G, Barnett, who read an interesting paper on "Church Organß," after which several selections of sacred music were performed by a number of ladies and gentlemen. The meeting was of a moat instructive and pleasing character.
