BOARD OF CONSERVATORS.

Tuesday, Masch 9. The nsual meeting of the South Waimakariri Board of Conservators was held at noon. Present—Messrs E J. S. Harman (chairman), J. P. O’Callaghan, A. Duncan and the Mayor of Christchurch. The Chairman reported that the Auditor had again had to leave town and had stated he would communicate with the chairman when in town. The tender of Mr O. W. Turner, for supply of cement at 19s lOd per cask, delivered at Templeton, had been accepted. He had seen the Chief Surveyor on the subject of the survey of their reserves, and had been informed that a great portion of the work had been completed. He had received a letter from the secretary of the various local bodies meeting in conference interested on the north side of the river, asking that no further obstructions might be placed in the river, as it resulted in damage to the banka of the river. It was resolved that the clerk to the Board forward a reply to the secretary of the conference, stating that without admitting the acceptance of the opinions expressed by Mr Dobson the Board, are willing, in proceeding with further work*, to give special consideration to the question

whether any injury is likely to accrue to the northern banks therefrom.” The overseer had an interview with the Board with reference to certain works which he suggested should be executed.

It was resolved that the chairman inspect the works proposed, and that the overseer erect a shingle bank, as requested. It was resolved that the rate of wages paid by the Board should bo 7s per day for the future, and for a two horse-team 16s per day. Several accounts were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
