[reuter’s telegrams.] MELBOURNE, March 3. Prize Cantata. There have been 190 cantatas received in the competition for the prize offered for a cantata to be performed at the opening of the Exhibition. SYDNEY, March 4. Too Hard WorkedThe Legislative Council yesterday, refused to vote a salary for an assistant to the Private Secretary to the Governor, or an increase to the salary, snd forage allowance for the aide-de-camp. Strong exception was taken to the statement by Sir Henry Parkes, the Premier, that the increases has been submit,ted in compliance with a minute from the Governor. The New Ministry. Mr Service is busily engaged in forming a new administration, the personnel of which will he known to-morrow. The following have been named as being likely to form part of the new Ministry: — Messrs Murray, Smith, Cooper, Bent, Duffy, and Kerford. Mr McMahon is spoken of as likely to he appointed to the Speakership. BRISBANE, March 3. An Aboriginal De perado. Campbell, a notorious aboriginal des perado, has shot a black tracker in the arm. The Crew of the MeteorThe barque Gazelle has brought to Brisbane eighteen of the crew of the ship Meteor, which has been wrecked on the Solomon Group. She also brings a family named Treleaven, who were on board at the time that the vessel was wrecked. RacingDarriwell and Caspian are firm favorites for the Cup. The Wheat MarketThe shipments of wheat which have arrived have been sold at advance prices.
