HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
AUTUMN SHOW. The autumn show in connection with the Christohnrch Horticultural Society opened this morning in the Oddfellows’ Hall, and was a really excellent one in all its departments. The pot plants both in the open and amateur class, especially the geraniums, were very fine, especially the exhibits of Messrs. Duncan and Son. In the fuschias Mr Cullen, an amateur, exhibited some splendidly grown plants, and Mr Norman, as usual, secured a large number of prizes with his exhibits in the amateur class. The dahlias, asters, and marigolds exhibited were really grand blooms, the former especially so —a stand of twenty-four exhibited by Messrs Nairn and Sons being a perfect picture. The collections of cut blooms and the bouquets, both in the open and amateur class, were well worth looking at. The fruit, as might be expected from the season, was very good. The grapes and peaches exhibited, for size and flavor, would be hard to beat anywhere. Messrs Duncan and Son and Mr Gould contributed in no small degree to the success of the show by tho excellence of their exhibits in the class for exhibition only. Some magnificent geraniums, amongst them many new varieties sent by the former, and a collection of plants by the latter, being well worthy of commendation. A fair number of visitors patronised the show during the afternoon. To-night the show will be open until ten o’clock.
