AQUATICS.
UNION ROWING CLUB. DOUBLE BCULLS. The Maiden Double Sculling Race in connection with the Union Rowing Club, took place on Saturday afternoon, over a three-quarter-mile course. Mr Petrie acted as starter and judge. The following were the results of the events : Daphne—South bank—P. A. Britton and A. Hawkins (C. Rodgers, cox) ... ... 1 Dolphin—North bank—F. Hyman and E. H. Weledge (W. H. Woledge, cox) ~ 2 The Daphne took the lead at the start, and was never headed, winning by two lengths. Dolphin—North bank—C. P. Bowley and H. Duncan (C. Rodgers, cox) ... ... 1 Daphne—South bank —P- A. Britton and A. Hawkins (W. H. Woledge, cox) ... 2 At the word “ go” both crews caught the water well together, keeping on even terms until the turn at Cowliahaw’s was reached. Here Bowley, who had the advantage of the bend, put on a spurt, and being well backed up by bow, drew round a length ahead of his opponents. This advantage he managed to keep'to the finish. The rowing as a whole was much better than last Saturday.
