RANGIORA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting was held on Friday evening. Present —The Mayor (Mr Blackett), Ors. Bobinson, Good, Luxton, Ivory, Stephens and Burt. Leave of absence was granted to Ors. Johnston and Boyd. Mr Ellis having subscribed to the declaration required from newly-elected councillors took his seat. Letters were read—From Charitable Aid department, forwarding list of persons receiving relief within the borough. From Colonial Secretary, acknowledging receipt of by-law relating to footpaths. Resolved, the same be brought into force. From Dr. Downes, applying for extension of time to alter fence at junction of King and High streets. Granted, From contractor for Junction Hotel, for permission to erect scaffolding over footpath for six months. Granted. From Mr Boyle, enclosing cheque for rental of endowment reserve at Chertsey. From Railway Engineer, relative to Mr McGrath’s road and level crossing. From a ranger, offering to impound cattle straying in the borough on certain terms. Declined, as the same was part of the duty of the police. From Colonial Treasurer, forwarding voucher for £2 for fees received. From agent Bank of New Zealand, relative to alteration of existing agreement between the Council &nd that Bank. Referred to finance committee to invite tenders from Banks for the Council’s account. From hon. sec. Volunteer Fire Brigade, asking Council’s patronage to ball on Easter Monday. Granted. The balance-sheet showed £122 12s 8d in hand. Accounts amounting to £94 16s 2d were passed. It was resolved that the Mayor, Ors. Stephens and Ivory examine work on East town belt before passing same. After discussing some matters of routine, the Council adjourned till Friday, March 19th,
