THE PLEURO-PNEUMONIA SCARE.

[By TfiIBGEAPH.] [YBOir OITS OWN COESEaPONDENT.] WELLINGTON, February 38. Strong pressure is being brought to bear from Auckland to induce the Government to stop all importation of cattle from Australian ports to New Zealand in consequence of the reported appearance of pleuro-pneumonia among cattle recently imported to Auckland from Australia. I understand, however, that the Government, while willing and anxious to do all in their power to prevent any spread of so formidable a cattle disease, do not feel justified in taking so strong a step as closing the ports without fuller evidence than has yet been adduced. As to the disease being pleuro-pneumonia, I hear that means will probably be taken to procure clear and full proof of this before resort is had to the very stringent measures so loudly called for by a certain section of the community. Further information will probably transpire shortly on this subject.
