MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.

CHRISTCHURCH. Monday, Mabch 1. ("Before J. E. Parker, and P. Hobbs, Esq.’e J.P.’s.] Decte and Disobdebly.—Two inebriates (first offenders) were fined 5s each, and one 20s. Lunacy. —H. F. Allen and T. P. Halliweil. who had been remanded to Lyttelton fcr medical treatment for lunacy from drink, were now brought up and pronounced to be convalescent. They were each reprimanded and discharged. Stealing Pettit. —William Brooks and Albert Brooks were charged with stealing a quantity of apples, the property of Henry Bell Johnston. The prisoners had only been arrested late the previous night with a bag containing about 561 b of apples in their possession. On the application of Serjeant Morice they were remanded for twenty-four hours.

Wandebino Houses and Cattle. —P. Culliford, Jacob Wagner, John Spencer, Hugh Miller, and John Ormes were fined the usual sums for this breach of the by-laws.

Miscellaneous. —John Barrett was summoned for neglecting to keep a light on an excavation in Colombo street. Mr Neck appearad on hia behalf. As it appeared that the defendant took steps to supply a light when the necessity was pointed out to him by a policeman, the information was dismissed, John Jenkins was fined 10s for driving four unhaltered horses up Colombo street to the danger of passers by. Alfred Wilcox was summoned for obstructing the street by leaving his trap without any one to look after it. The defendant did not appear, and a fine of 10a was imposed and the costs of two witnesses.
