THE EASTER REVIEW.
The number of men from the various corps who have up to date sent in notice of their intention to attend the volunteer review at Easter to 650. As the question of billetting in the immigration barracks, which has apparently prevented many from sending in their returns, is now settled by the issue of the accompanying memo., more than double the number stated will probably be present. Major Lean yesterday issued the following memo, to the various volunteer corps in the colony:— “Assistant Quartermaster-General’s Office, Christchurch, February 24th, 1880—In consequence of the arrival yesterday of an immigrant vessel with sickness on board, and_ on this ground solely, the committee have withdrawn their proposal to occupy the immigration barracks as billets for volunteers attending Easter review. In view of the above fact the A.Q.M.G. will allot billets in town in order of application received to date. To accommodate any excess beyond the number for which accommodation in town has been offered by the committee, a camping ground will be provided, and the AQ.M.G. will receive applications from corps to attend the review who may be in a position to provide their own camp equipage and bedding, and make such arrangements with local contractors as they may think fit, in lieu of the contribution of 10s originally named. The A.Q.M.G.’s staff will afford every facility in forwarding such an arrangement. By command, A tbt Lean, Major, AQ.M.G.”
