INDEPENDENT ORDER OF RECHABITES.
The annual meeting was continued yesterday morning, at the Templar Hall. The question of adopting the graduated scale on the Ist July next was re-committed, and the Ist April substituted in lieu thereof. The secretary was instructed to inform each Tent that the graduated scale had been adopted, and would come into force on the date named. It was decided to hold the next annual meeting in Taranaki. The district officers were instructed to revise the general laws and have them printed as early as possible. Letters were received from the Southern Cross and Dauntless Good Templar Lodges, inviting the representatives to attend their lodge meetings. The following resolution was carried : —“ The Council having heard that it is the intention of Mr Matthew Burnett to visit New Zealand to give a series of temperance lectures, respectfully requests the officers and members of the various Tents to render him all the assistance they can, with a view of making his visit as effectual for good as possible.” The “ Temperance Herald ” was appointed the official organ of the Roohabite Order for the ensuing year. Votes of thanks were accorded to the Pride of Christchurch Tent for the arrangements made by them for the district meeting; also to the district officers for their services during the past year 5 to the Hope of Christchurch Lodge of Good Templars for their kindness in foregoing their meeting for the convenience of the district meeting ; and also to the daily papers of Christchurch for their courtesy in inserting reports of the meeting. The newly elected officers were then duly installed, and the D.O R., D.D.R., D.T., and D.B. suitably returned thanks for the honor conferred upon them. The meeting was then brought to a close at six o’clock.
