CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

The usual meeting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held on Wednesday afternoon at 4 o’clock. There were present ■Mr Thompson (chairman), Messrs J. E. Brown, Booth, Ick, and Mr March, sec.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

The Hospital committee reported that during the past fortnight forty patients had been admitted, thirty two discharged, leaving oight.y-two in the institution; during the same period there wore six deaths.

The Chairman stated that he was unofficially informed that the Mayor of Sydenham had been appointed a member of the Board.

A letter was read from Mr Pridgeon, resigning his position as hospital surgeon and dispenser. The resignation of Mr Pridgeon was accepted, and a resolution passed to advertise for an officer to fill his place. The following letter was received from Dr Turnbull:— To the Chairman of the Charitable Aid Board.

Sir, —I beg to acknowledge the receipt of a resolution passed by yonr Board, calling my attention to the fact that 1 had not attended since October Ist, j 879. The deprivation has been, I assure you, a source of considerable disco n fort to me, bat I am glad to learn that steps are being taken by the Colonial Secretary to remove any necessity for my refraining from attendance at the Board. When the new members are duly gazetted, 1 will with pleasure resumo my share of the work in the management of our important department. I am, sir, Yonr obedient servant, James S. Turnbull.

Mr Brown moved—“ That a copy ot the resolution of the Board referring to Dr. Turnbull’s absence from the Board meeting, together with a copy of Dr. Turnbull’s letter of this dote he forwarded to the Colonial Secretary, with the remark that this Board was not aware that the Government contemplated removing Dr. Turnbull's objections to the present Board by appointing new members.” After some discussion, the motion was carried.

Some routine business followed, after the transaction of which tho meeting adjourned.
