New Zealand Ales
In the distribution of Exhibition prizes in the class “ mild ales,” Joel, of Dunedin, took first prize; Brown and Campbell, of Auckland, were highly commended. In the class “ pale ales,” Martin, of Invercargill, took the first prize, and the samples sent by Pascoe, Wellington, and Wilson, Dunedin, were highly commended. In the class “ strong ales,’, Vincent, of Christchurch, took first prize; Speight, of Dunedin, the second. In the class “ bottled stout,” Crawford, of Dunedin, took the first prize ; the Phoenix Brewery (probably Ehrenfried), second. There were no awards for bottled ales. MELBOURNE, February 10. Mr Berry addressed the Geelong electors yesterday in a long speech, in which he defended tho policy and actions of the Government. He sketched the future programme of the Ministry and stated that they had resolved to abandon the nominee clause, but would retain the plebiscite and sixth clause in the next Reform Bill.
