NEW ZEALAND RIFLE ASSOCIATION.

The following letter has been received by Lieut. Appleby from the secretary of the New Zealand Rifle Association :

Wellington, February 2nd, 1880. Dear Sir, —I am instructed to notify to local secretaries that the following arrangements have been made for the Nelson meeting. The shooting will commence on Monday, first March—by a typographical error 2nd is stated in the programme. The Government have agreed to refund the railway fares of Volunteer members proceeding to Nelson, but the fare must be paid in the first instance, and a receipt taken from the booking clerks; upon production of such receipt through the officer commanding the district to the Defence Office, the fare will he refunded. The Union fcteam Company have agreed to convey members of tire association (and horses) to and from Nelson at greatly reduced fares, but each competitor must obtain from the local secretary the certificate (as provided last year) showing that he is a member of the assoojation and proceeding to Nelson to take part in the shooting. If necessary a special steamer will leave Wellington on the evening of the 28th instant, arriving at Nelson on the same day. I shall bo glad to receive by the 14th instant the names of Volunteer officers desirous of acting as register keepers on the terms mentioned in my circular of the 20th October last. The Local Secretary. As the time is fast approaching for the competition, the local secretary, Lieutenant Appleby, will be glad to receive the' names of intending competitors as early as possible.
