NORTH KOWAI SCHOOL.
A meeting of this school committee waa held on Tuesday. Present—Messrs Xi. C. Williams (chairman), McLean, Robertson, Qaynor, and Musgrave. The inspector’s report waa the subject of considerable discussion, and a resolution was ultimately passed, to the effect that the chairman write to the Board of Educat : on, asking them to get from the inspector a decided opinion as to the head teacher’s capacity for his position, the committee being unable to reconcile the report with the large percentage of passes in the various standards. The chairman announced that he had looked into the matter referred to in the report of the inspector, re the mixing of the sexes in the playground. It was resolved that the chairman should make certain suggestions to the Board. The chairman stated that the muster had suffered a loss of £2 16s Id on account of the dramatic entertainment for the prize fund. The committee regretted they had no funds to make up the deficiency. They also expressed their disapproval of this kind of psrformance, as tending to larnkinism. Mr Robertson stated that he had beard complaints from a number of the parents in the district regarding the schoolmaster’s engaging in other offices in the township—such as the secretaryship of the Town Hall Company, &c. —their opinion being that it interfeied with his duties in the school. Mr Gaynor endorsed tnese remarks, as ho thought the master was in receipt of a substantial salary, and should be satisfied. On the motion of Mr Robertson, seconded by Mr Gay nor, a resolution was pissed that the master bo informed that the committee disapprove of the same. The chairman was requested to call a special meeting to consider the reply from the Board regarding the inspector’s report.
