THE OPERA.

The performance of 11 Carmen” for the last time, as a farewell b(»eit to Madame Bose Hersee, drew last night a very good house. The prima donna never acted the part of Carmen more successfully, and it will surprise those who witnessed her performance upon this occasion to learn that she was suffering from severe indisposition. Trying as the vocal part is, she secured as much solid applause as ever in all she sang, and leaves behind her in this opera most favorable impressions, gained in four representations. Miss Royal as Michaela also achieved her usual success in this her beet character. Of Mr Beaumont as Don Jose it is hardly necessary to say that he never played the part to more advantage. He was in excellent voice, and the music that fell to his share was rendered in a manner which so distinguishes him in this role. Signor Verdi always secured a warm reception as Escamillo, and the Toreador’s song was again the piece de resistance of the evening. Mrs Fox, Miss Lambert, Mr Templeton, and those composing the rest of the cast, were not wanting in their respective characters. The plentiful applause that greeted the principals throughout testifies to the fact that the performance was highly appreciated. To-night “II Trovatore” is to be repeated, and no doubt this great favorite will secure for its last appearance an unusually good house.
