Flanaghan 1 ” Well, yonr honour, I wish it wan my rent I could pay, the whole fifteen pounds of it ; bat scrape and scrape as I might it’s only the ten pound note I cou'd get together, and I had to sell the pigs to make that ” Flanagan exhibits the note, hut is reluctant to part with it, and looks at it lovingly, though he cannot read the inscription. “ That’s all I coaid find by all of pinching and scraping, yonr honour, and I was hoping that, seeing how bad the times is, your honour might be plazed to forget the rent for the half year, for the crors is no'hing, and it’s buying everything I’ll have to be.” The landlord, however, stretched out his hand for the note “Times are hard, Flanaghan, as you say, though yonr crops are scarcely as bad, I fancy, as yon make out. I’m afraid I must take the ten pounds, but I’ll give you the change. You have taken tne wrong note out of your cash-h"*; this is one for £IOO.
