AUCKLAND REGATTA.

[Br Tblegbaeh.J AUCKLAND, January 29. The anniversary of the province was celebrated by the usual regatta. The weather was everything that could be desired. A splendid sailing breeze prevailed, and the flagship, Tararua, Cap'ain Mnir, was crowded with visitors. The wharves and cliffs were lined with thousands of spectators. Owing, to the breeze increasing the outrigger, fouroared gig, sculling aud dingy races were postponed till to-morrow. The following are the events : Champion race, brigantines, schooners and ketches, 25 tons and upwards; first prize,. £IOO ; second, cup value £8 and £2O added ; third, £10; special priz?, sextant, to the master of the first vessel arriving of 50 tone or over. Course round Tiri Tiri and back; about forty miles. The entries were the Annie Wilson, topsail schooner, 150 tons ; Mazeppa, schooner, 111 tons; Borealis, brigantine, 113 tons ; Transit, topsail schooner, 79 tonß ; Caledonian.schooner, 58 tons ; Ada, ketch, 29 tors ; Byno, brig, 85 tons ; Beward, schooner, 40 tons; Fleetwing, schooner, 55 tons; Miry Anderson, schooner, 52 tons; Sibyl, topsail schooner, 150 tons. As it was known that Mr Barton of Northern Wairoa, builder of the Torea.had brought roun*J the Annie Wilson and Sibyl to contest the laurels of the Transit, the champion schooner of last year, additional interest was given to the event, and a considerable amount of money changed hands. At 130 exactly the gun was fired, and in an incredibly short space of timo the eleven competing vessels were beating down the harbor under a press of canvas, rounding the North head in the following order : —Sibyl, Transit, Annie Wilson, Caledonian, Fleetwing, Adah, Beward, Borealis, Mazeppa, Byno, Mary Anderson. Goin» down channel there was a leading wind, and the Sibyl gradually forged ahead to windward, leading by hulf a-mile. Meanwhile the Annie Wilson overhauled the Transit, and passed her, the Borealis three quarters of a mile astern with the Caledonian in her rear, the balance a long way astern. The time taken showed the Sybil to have 4min. lead of the Annie Wilson, the Transit 3min. behind the Wilson. The Boreali , which made a very short board, wiiS about 2aiin. after the Transit. Giing about on rounding Tiri Tiri, the Sybil further increased h«r lead. The Transit set her equaresa.il and htld her own with the Wilson, a mile ahead of the Borealis. Passing the beacon off the Borealis kept close to the wind, and the Transit shot ahead, obtaining a slight h»«d. HaviEg got a favorable puff, the Sybil first rounded the North Head at 225 p.m., four minutes ahead of the Annie Wilson ai d seven minutes ahead of the Transit. resulted as follows :—Sybil. 2h. 28min. 3sec ; A. Wilson, 2h. 30min. 3sec.; Transit, 2h. 34min. 40aec. ; Borealis, 2h. 37min. 50-<ec ; Caledonian, 2h. 52min 53sec. ; Mazeppa, 2h 57min. The Reward, Ryno, Adah and Fleetwing arrived in the order given, but all were well in roar. The Transit has time allowa> ce of llmin. -lOsec, and she therefore takes firs'; prize, Sybil second, Annie Wilson third, and the Borealis Bavos her Btakes. The Mazeppa did not go round the course.
