Our correspondent in this district writes: The school has been closed since the end of September in consequence o£ the prolonged duration of diphtheria in the district, but will shortly be opened. Threshing grass seed has already begun on some farms in the neighborhood, with the Hororata Steam Threshing Company's plant. Glendore, the property of Mr James Aitkin, haß changed hands, about 2500 acres, at £15,000. Mr A. Oardale has taken the property and will remove there shortly from Waireka. Mr N. Hopkins has been holding stock sales, <S;2., at the. Bluff Hotel, [Ccalgate. There are, as a rule, plenty of sellers, but the buyers few. The Hakais Boad Board have let the work of forming a large race or canal to carry away the storm water from a creek rej.iicing in the name of " Happy Jack's," into the Selwyn, a distance of about a mile. This will be a great boon to the school, and Hororata township, which used to be flooded to a considerable depth. The work will be completed in about three months, so as to be serviceable for the first winter rains
