TROTTING MATCH.
A match for £25 a side, between Mr W. H. Porter's grey mare Peggy and Mr Morling's mare Victoria, three miles, took place yesterday on the Lincoln load, the starting point being one mile beyond the Junction Hotel. Mr Morling's mare was conceded one hundred yards start. The match was run in harness—the owners piloting their respective horses. The start was effected at report of a pistol. Viotona getting a bit the best of the start. The grey mare gradually crawled up, and made her competitor put her best leg foremoßt. After a mile and a-half had been passed, Victoria was unable to keep the lead, and the Shades' representative came to the front. At two miles and a-half, Peggy was pulled up owing Mr Howland pulling close in to Mr Porter's sulky, allowing Victoria to come up and pass. Mr Porter, however, was soon under way again, and the grey gradually but surely overhauled her opponent, winning the matoh by over 150 yards, notwithstanding the difficulties under which she ran. -
