LYTTELTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The Ly ttelton Borough Council held a meeting on Monday, a full attendance of councillor* being present. The receipts since last meeting were £SO 12s 4d. It web left to the discretion of the Major to attend the meeting of delegates of the associated municipalities to be held in Ohristchurch on the 28th instant. Grarforth and Lee's application for a renewal of their license for a slaughter-house in Corsair Bay, and a similar application from Cook for G-ollan's Bay, were granted for six months, and a committee was appointed to consider the question of the existing abbatoirs, and to report in a month. Mr Queere's application for a share of Council's blacksmitbing work was granted, and a request of Mr P. Barry to have a footpath asphalted was acceded to. Hollis and Williams* request for a part paymint on account of eontract for building engine house was similarly dealt with. The engineer at the pumping station reported the daily consumption to be 56,000 gallons. Accounts amounting to £244 10s 4i were passed. The Mayor adverted to the works which the Council had undertaken in connection with Mr P. Cunningham's store, and said it had turned out to be a much more extensive job than was [first contemplated. The cost will of course be borne by Mr Cunningham. The valuation list was submitted, and £25 passed for payment of one-half the valuator's fee. The bathing committee reported adversely upon the application for a public bath house to be erected by the Council, the reason given being want of funds. Cr. M'Clatchie was informed that no time would be lost in getting the fresh water laid along the extension of the Gladstone Pier. A resolution was agreed to that the finance committee prepare a statement showing the present financial position of the Council, with estimates for the current year. This was the outcome of a consideration by Council of the propriety of completing the sewer in Salt's Gully.
