The following is a list of contributions to the Canterbury Museum for the half year ending December 31st, 1879 : Mr F. Haddrell—Specimen of white sparrow (Passer dornesticus), found at Papanui. Mr S. 0. Farr, Christohurch—Old copy of the eccentric will of Henry Trigg, of Stevenage ; two specimens of scarlet aberdevat, Japan. Mrs Captain Foster, Bingsland—One embroidered shot bag made by the Indians ; one bußt of the Governor and one of the British Admiral of Port Victoria, Vancouver's Island, carved by the natives out of the leg bone of a buffalo. Mr A. Duncan, Christchurch—Two specimens of Recurvirostra rubricollis, New Zealand avocet. Mr R. L. Holmes, F.M.S., Bua, Fiji— Two cases containing a large series of geological, zoological, botanical and ethnological specimens oollected by him in the Fiji Islands. Mr W. Kitson, Christchurch—One specimen, fossil, Schizseter lyoni, North Canterbury. Mr T. W. Hall, Timaru—Portions of moa bones in loess from the Timarn Cliffs. Mr Revell, Kaiapoi—One Irish copper coin, 176 a. Mr F. Hobbs, Christchurch—One specimen porcupine fish (Chilomycterus jaculiferus). Mr Samuel Stewart, Christchurch—Two gold and one Bilver enamelled crosses, belonging to Portuguese and Spanish orders of knighthood. Mr William Arthur Nalder, East Oxford— Nine specimens of Ocydromua Australis ; two do. of Harpactocarcinus tumidus, fosßil crab, from Double Corner. Mr J. Gwatkin, North belt—One Bilver coin, Queen Anne. Dr. Symes, Ohristchuroh—Skull of Pristes antiquorum, saw-fish, from Malay Archipelago. Mr Walter Tipler, Christchurch—Three specimens of Lycopodium ramulosum, Kirk, originally discovered by him near Hokitika ; packet of fern seeds of 60 species, Westland ; one bronze medal, 1851 Exhibition. Mr W. Oolclough, Christchurch One specimen of Naultinus punctatus, rock gecko ; and one of Mocoa Zealandica, Mako-mako, from Port Hills. Mr Albert Aldridge, farmer, Dunßandel One Btone Maori adze, ploughed up on his farm, about four inches below the surface, in July, 1879. Mons. James Hugli—Photograph of prehistoric Swiss graves; small Italian banknote ; one silver Swiss coin, half-franc ; one small silver German coin. Dr. George Bennett, F.L S, Sydney— Collection of fossil bones of Australian vertebrates ; specimen of Daboia Rußsellii, tic prolongs, Ceylon. Dr. James Cox, F.L.B , Sydney.—Collection of fossil bones of Australian vertebrates ; collection of invertebrates in spirits of wine ; specimen of fossil plant impressions from the coal measures, New South Wales. Mr Alexander Stuart, M.P., Sydney.—Old Maori taiaha. Dr. A. G. Purchase, Auckland.—Three specimens of Helix, from the neighborhood of Manukau. The Minister of Public Works, Wellington. —Copy of Mr W. N. Blair's work on the building materials of Otago. N. Sakata, Executive Commissioner of Japan, Sydney Exhibition. —Specimens illustrating the paper manufactory in Japan. Mr W. H. Brown. —One specimen of fish (Raja nasuta), found on the beach near Amberley. The Executors of the late Dr. L. Powell, M.D., F.L.B.—Collection of spiders and marine invertebrates in spirits of wine. Mr William Peter fcmitb, Addington.— Puir of old English plated buckles from Hornmersly, six miles from Worcester. Mr James Howell, Waikari.—Petrified moa bone. M- . -thur D. The Philosophical institute of Canterbury, Christchurch.—Collection of Japanese bronzeß, china, and faience bought for that Institution at the Sydney Exhibition by Profesßor von Haast. Engraving by Mr F. Muller, " The Madonna di San Sisto " of Raphael. Mr A. Reischek —Species of Helix Busbii and eggs in spirits of wine; collection of land and fresh water shells, collected north of Auckland.
Mr O. Hepburn Robson, Moeraki—Three specimens of Arachnoides placenta; one specimen of Stigmatophora longirostris ; two specimens of Halodroma urinatrix; two specimens of Prior Turtur ; one specimen of Puffinus gavius,
Mr W. J. Wheeler, Jackson's Bay—Specimen of bitumen found floating in the eea in Preservation Inlet.
Mr F. H. Meinertzhagen, Waimaramn, Hawke's Bay—Remains from old kitchen middens; collection of land and fresh water sh lis.
Mr F. Q-. Engst, Chatham Islands—Collec tion of Chatham Island plants. Messrs Ingram and White, Oxford.—Specimen of chalk found near Oxford.
Mr J. D. Enys, F.G.S., Castle Hill Station. —Set of incisors of Hippopotamus amphibius, Linn.; one Japanese cup, egg-Bhell porcelain ; bronze finger ring, with hieroglyphic inscription, from a tomb at Thebes, Egypt; collection of marine shells.
Mr E. Bichards, Armagh street east—Four pods of Cotton, Q-ossypium barbadenee, from Georgia, South America. Mr T. Deighton, R.M., Waitangi, Chatham Islands—One Taiaha (Moriori). Professor G. Ulrich, F.G.S., Dunedin— Collection of minerals from Victorio, and of ores, rocks, and metallurgical products from the tin mines, Mount Bischoff. Tasmania.
