SELECTING A SPADE.
Most persons know what a spade if, but they do not know wHch iH the beat to use for quality of the work. At first sight it appears an easy enough matter to g.o to the Ironmonger's and purchase one, but such is not the case. If you want good work, and plenty of it, you mils' get a common heavy iron spade, as it is heavy enough without the spit of soil, and is never bright or sharp Get a good sharp steel spade, thin in the blade, and ground bright. Let it have good straps a shaft or handle free from knots or flaws, 'and well riveted. Choose one that is not too much bent, or "lifted," and tbat is not dished in the blade. In using, be careful to keep the tool clean, and when dono with, clean it and hang it up in the tool house, and with fair usage the spade, will last for years,
