[beeteb’s telegbams.] Female PredestrianismThe winner in the female pedestrian contest walked 76 miles in 24 hours. SYDNEY. December 21. Arrived : Torres Straits mail at Cooktown. Wreck of a Barque. The barque Adelphoi has been wrecked at Port Hackling. Tho crew wore all saved. She was insured for £2OOO in the Now Zealand Insurance office. The Cases of LeprosyTwo Chinamen were discovered in a suburb of Sydney afflicted with leprosy. One is supposed to have poisoned himself, and tho other was taken away late on Saturday night to La Porouse, close to tho lauding place of tho Now Zealand cable, and put in a tout near the beach, which is a favorite picnic ground. Great indignation is manifested by tho cable and Custom-house people, and a strong remonstrance has been sent to the Premier. Tho action means the absolute isolation of the cable station, and it will possibly affect telegraphic communication with New Zealand. It is hoped tho New Zealand Government will remonstrate with the Sydney authorities. Groat alarm has been created, as the disease exists iu its most loathsome form.
