CHRISTCHURCH HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
A meeting of the committee of the Christchurch Horticultural Society was held last evening at the rooms of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association. Present—Messrs S. Manning, chairman, G. A. Beads, J. Gray, F. Jones, D. Nairn, and the secretary. It was resolved—" That the next monthly meeting (at which prizes are offered for carnations and piootees) be held at the Orange Hall on Tuesday, January 6th, and that the exhibits be opened to members at 6 o'clock p.m." Messrs J. Dutton and F. Jones were chosen to make the awards. The secretary reported that, in accordance with the resolution passed at the meeting called to consider the protest entered at the rose show, he had made enquiries and found that the exhibitor objected to had not before been an exhibitor of roses, and that therefore the protest could not be sustained. The secretary was instructed to convey this information to the parties interested. Mr Q-. A. Reade exhibited a very large and fine collection of Belgian pansies, many of which promise to be excellent border flowers.
