GOOD TEMPLARY.

At the close of the morning session yesterday the Grand Lodge degree was conferred on Sister* M. A. Bashford, C. Robertson, Thurza Seats; Bros. O. E. Robertson, W. E. A. Ramsey, T. A. W. Griffiths, all of Providence Lodge, No. 103. At the opening of the fifth or afternoon session, the first business was the nomination and election of officers. For the office of G.W.0.T., Bros. Rev. Dr. Roseby, of Dunedin, and Bro. J. T. Smith, of Christchurch, were nominated. The voting was —Roseby, 17; Smith, 10. Bro. Rev. Dr.Roseby was, therefore, declared elected G.W.C.T. for the ensuing year. For the office of G.W. Councillor, Bro. Parkinson, of Greymouth, was elected. For the office of Q W. Vice-Templar, Bro. Johnson, of Wellington, was elected. For the office of G W. Secretary, Bro. Cameron was re-elected with out opposition. For the office of G.W. Treasurer, Bro. Carr was re-elected without opposition. For the office of G.W. Chaplain, Bro. Rev J.N.Buttle, of Balclutha, wi« elected without opposition. For the office of GW. Marshal, Bro. T. L. Smith was elected. For the office of Grand Superintendent Junior Temples, Bro. J. T. Smith, was reelected unanimously by acclamation. The following officers were appointed. G. Assist. Secretary,Bro B. C. Robbins; G. Dep.Marshal, Sister J. O. Harding ; Q. Guard, Bro. K Sando ; G, Sentinel, G. H. Stringer ; G. Messenger, J. Carter. The G.W.C. Templar informed the lodge that the session of the Worthy Grand Lodge was to bo held in 1880, and that it was proposed to hold it in Melbourne instead of Now Zealand, as pro vionsly agreed, the reason for this change being that it was desirable that the temperance question should be well represented at the Soeial Science Con-

gress' which will he held concurrently with the Melbourne Erhibition. The Grand Lodge unanimously endorsed the recommendation o£ the G.W.C.T., and decided to elect three representatives to attend that meeting, Bros. Jugo, Bennetts, and Rosohy were elected representatives, and Bros. Hull, J. X. Smith and J. A. D. Adams alternate representatives. At the evening session a letter was read from the Rainbow Lodge, No. 13, complaining of an incorrect statement in the G.W.C.T.’s report, which they had learnt from the new*, paper report of the proceedings. It was handed to the committee who had previously been appointed to investigate matters connected with the split in the Rainbow Lodge. The Grand Lodge Degree was conferred on. the following members, who were duly accredited—Sister Emily Guise, Bro. Richard Guise, Bro. W. J. Prater, Southern Cross Lodge; Bro. John Herriot, Bro. James Tayler, jun., St. Andrew’s Lodges Bro. L. Anderson, Rising Sun Lodge; Sisler L. Parker, Bro. W. Warren, Hope of Christchurch Lodge ; Sister Pickett, Bro. Brown, Pride of Sydenham Bro. B. Booth, Dauntless Lodge j Bro. James McParlane, Rescue Lodge; Bro. H. Saunderoock, Advance Lodge. Consideration of tho recommendations to tho Worthy Grand Lodge was then proceeded with, and the debate on the tobacco pledge of the Juvenile Temples was resumed. It was finally, after much debate, decided to leave the obligation as it now stands. The seventh session opened this morning at nine o’clock. A resolution was passed calling attention to the continued breach of the law forbidding the sale of intoxicating liquors to children sent by their parents and others for that purpose to publichouses, as it is a fact that a large amount of drunkenness is owing to this pernicious habit. The Executive wae requested to take steps to have this law regularly and efficiently enforced. A resolution was also passed urging the necessity of strictly attending to election matters. A vote of £4O, for providing books and medals for prizes for juvenile temples was passed. A committee was appointed to arrange a sclecof temperance melodies and odes for the use use of the order in New Zealand. Appeals against a decision of the Grand W.O. Templar re ,the election of District Deputy for Wei* lington were referred to the appeals committee. The Executive was urged to continue their efforts to procure a Grand Lodge lecturer, and also to arrange for a number of official visits to tho outlying districts. The action of the Executive in refusing to endorse appeals for pecuniary aid to he sent to the lodges wae approved of. The G.L. degree was conferred on the following members :—Bro. T. Jones, Sisters M. Bowen, J. Whitson, B. Pickering, Star of Freedom Lodge ; Bro. Moffatt, Southern Cross Lodge ; Bros. T. Scott, B. Elsdon, Star of the East Lodge ; Bro. W. H. Reid, Good Intent Lodge ; Bro. A. Simpson, Northern Star; Bro. J. M. Eraser, Onward ; and Bro. W. L. Richards, representative from the Kumara district. The committee appointed to consider the question of the split in the Lyttelton Lodge reported that the opposing parties had agreed to settle the matter amicably, and the matter was left in the hands of the Executive.
