KAIAPOI BOROUGH SCHOOL ENTERTAINMENT.
A very successful entertainment in aid of the Borough School prize fund, was given on Friday evening, in the Oddfellows’ Hall, which was crowded, about £l7 being taken for admission. Dr. Dudley presided. The following are the items of the programme :—Selection, Kaiapoi Brass Band ; three part song, “ The Blacksmith,” the children j recitation, “ The Donkey,” Master N. Balch; duet, “ Flow on Thou Shining River,” Mrs Alexander and Mias Kaufmann ; piano solo, "Signal March,” Miss Weston; recitation, “ Meddlesome Matty,” Miss Hardey j three part song, “ A Boat Song,” the children; piano duet, “Car ary Bird Quadrille,” Mrs Hardey and Miss Wilson ; song, “ She Wore a Wreath of Roses,” Mrs Alexander ; reading, “ Melting Moments,” Mr Alexander j dnet, cornet and piano, Mr Mathews and Miss Johnston; song, “ Constance,” Miss Kaufmann; recitation, “Oasibianoa,” Master Ironside ; selection, Kaiapoi Brass Band ; duet, cornet and piano, Mr Mathews and Miss Johnston ; four part song, “Rosalie,” the children; recitation “Jessie of Lucknow,” Miss G. Pashby; harmonium solo, “Oujus Animam,” Master F. Parnham ; Bong, " The Slave’s Dream,” Miss J. Monk ; recitation, “The Spanish Champion,” Master F. Buckley j piano solo, “ Fairy Queen Galop,” Miss Hardey and Miss Burnip ; four part song, “ Come Roam in the Woodlands,” the children ; recitation, “ A Mother’s Love,” Miss Lynskey ; piano solo, “ R.M.O. Galop,” Master H. Neeve; dialogue, “ The Onelegged Goose,” Masters Buckley, Taylor, Johnston and Wright.” The elocution of Master Buckley calls for special commendation, and the singing of Mias Monk was encored. The precision with which the children sang in chorus was very marked. The last dialogue was exceedingly amusing, particularly on the part of Cooky. At the close, the chairman referred in eulogistic terms to the efforts of Mr Alexander and the teachers of the school, os well as to the pains taken by the scholars themselves to render the affair a success. Three cheers were given for Mr Alexander and the teachers. A similar compliment was paid to Dr. Dudley, and the proceedings terminated with the singing of the National Anthem.
