WAIMAKARIRI HARBOUR BOARD.

The monthly meeting was held on Monday. Present—Messrs Wearing (chairman), Blackwell, Mathews, Farnham, Moore, Eokersley, Denton. The chairman of the dredge committee stated that they had requested Mr J. G. Kidd, machinist, to report on the machinery placed on the dredge by Mr Woodford, and his report was to the effect that the shafting was not properly laid, the plummer blocks were not correctly bedded, the nuts on the bolts not screwed up, and the bracing to the bolster was useless. For these reasons he recommended the Board not to get up steam till the work was finished in a workmanlike manner. On receipt of the report, the computtee instructed Scott Bros., Christchurch, to'Send a practical man to adjust the machinery. This being done, steam was got up on Wednesday. The report was received. A lengthy discussion took place on the passing of Mr Woodford’s account, it being finally agreed to pay £7 5s 9d less, a deduction of half the cost of Scott Bros, charges. Accounts £33 6s lid were passed. It was resolved that the chairman arrange with the Bank of New Zealand for an overdraft to enable the Board to proceed with the dredging operations. Inatruotiona were issued that persons should be prohibited from removing clay from the reserves without special permission.
