At the Council on Monday night, the Mayor said Mr Wright had written, saying that he did. not think Government would be favorable to the proposed clause in the Municipal Act re subsidies, but be had hopes of securing the balance of the 2000 acres endowment. It was resolved that the first meeting of delegates re proposed Municipal Association should be held some time in January, the date to bo fixed at next meeting. services of the newly enrolled fire police were accepted, and a grant of £l6 made to the Fire Brigade for sinking open well for fire prevention purposes opposite Saunders’ Buildings, and doing other necessary work. After some further routine work, the Council adjourned.
