AMBERLEY RACES.
A meeting of tho Amberley race committee was held at Gaynor’s Hotel on Saturday evening to make final arrangements for the meeting on the 16th December, receiving nominations, &c. Mr Bonn presided. Tho hon. sec. (Mr Ferrar) presented the list of nominations for tho several events, giving a total of 38. The next business was tho engagement of a special train for tho occasion, and a letter having been road from the traffic manager saying the coat of the train would bo £25 10s, it was resolved to guarantee the amount, the train to leave town so as to arrive by 11.30 a.m. at Amberley, culling at all the principal stations on the road. Mr Higgins was appointed gatekeeper for tho saddling paddock. Mr McNaught promised to lond a tent and some ropes, and the secretary was instructed to write to Mr Anderson, Rangiora, offering terms for a marquee for the stewards. Messrs Coleman and Bristow undertook to arrange for the erection of the hurdles, and it was to be an instruction to the auctioneer that the successful tenderers for the booths should deposit an extra £2 2s as a guarantee for the clearing of the ground of bottles, &o. At the sale of privileges on Monday the prices realised were:—The right of publican’s booth, £2O ; confectioner’s do., £3 5s ; right of sports, £2 2s 6d ; right of grand stand, £1 10s ; right of horse paddock, 12s 6d ; right of cards, £3 15s—Total, £3l su.
