MAYORAL ELECTION. [cIECDXAIi.J THE Committee formed to promote the return of Councillor Ayers as Mayor of this City, most respectfully solicit your vote in hia favour. Councillor Ayers has now been a resident or Christchurch for the past twenty years, and during that period he has always manifested the keenest interest in civic affairs. During the comparatively short time —some fifteen months “~*iu which he has filled the position of Councillor, he has given a great deal of valuable time and attention to the business of the citizens, and has displayed a very considerable aptitude for the discharge of public duties. With characteristic energy he threw himself into the business of tbe City Council j bo has been identified with every movement of a forward and progressive character, and. generally, has brought to bear a shrewd intelligence and a large fund of common sense. In view of the fact that, as now constituted, the members of the City Council are gentlemen of social and business standing, the administration of the affairs of the city may be expected to proceed smoothly. It is felt that, whilst more than equal to any emergency likely to arise, Councillor Ayers, if elected, will discharge all the duties with liberality and tact in a manner not only highly satisfactory, bat calculated to reflect credit upon the city. It is upon these grounds, and upon the fact that both the opposing candidates have already enjoyed the honour of the position of Mayor of this City, that the Committee formed venture to base their claim for favorable consideration I for Councillor Ayers, and give expression to a hope that you will not only aoeord your own vote, but esrt your kindly interest upon bis 1 behalf. 11-23 1376
