The annual festival of the Native school, Eaupaki, toot place yesterday. A short examination was held by the inspector in the presence of the parents and several English friends. The school was built by the Government, and was opened in November last year. The average attendance has been twenty-four daily, and the progress made has been satisfactory. At the close of the examination the Bev. Mr Stack addressed the children and the parents. Mr T.jH. Potts also expressed the pleasure he felt at being present and in noticing the progress made. He impressed upon the parents the necessity there was for keeping up the efficiency of the school. Mr Merson, the Kev. Te Eoti, and the Bev. G. Mutu also addressed the parents. Mr Patrick Herliby, the master, was complimented by the inspector upon the progress and discipline of the school. The Bev. Mr Koti, the resident Native Minister, who was ably assisted by others of the school committee, invited his English guests to partake of refreshments in a booth erected near the school, where a very good lunch was provided. After the company had partaken of refreshments, the children made short work of the cakes and sweetmeats. In the afternoon sports were held in an adjoining paddock, the prizes being contributed by English friends. The Bev. G. Mutu, Mr Herlihy, and Mr J. S. Tahuna conducted the sports, which afforded great amusement to the Natives and visitors.
