BOARD OF HEALTH.
The usual meeting of the Christcknrch Board of Health was held yesterday afternoon shortly after four o'clock. Present —Mr Harman (chairman), Messrs Tancred, Boss, and Duncan. The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed, The report of the inspector tob read as follows : 1. In accordance with instructions I have communicated with the Phillipstown school committee in reference to sanitary requirements in connection with school grounds. 2. I have served notice on Mr Fletcher, North street, to 611 np a hollow place on land part section 213 B. It is being complied with. 3. I have served notice on Mr A. Smith, Ferry road, requesting him to abate a nuisance arising from the keeping o£ pigs. In December, 1878, notice was served upon him to abate a nuisance arising from a like cause. I desire the authority of the Board for taking legal proceedings against him upon failure to comply with the notice. 4. I have further reported to the chairman, and am acting on his instructions in regard to matters already reported. Wm. Peauce, Inspector of Nuisances. The inspector was instructed to ask the committee of the Phillipstown school what they intended to do. The authority to take proceedings asked for in clause 3 was granted. Tbo Chairman confirmed the latter part of the inspector's report. The report was then formally adopted. The Chairman notified that Dr. Nedwill had been informed of his appointment to the office of health officer, and a letter from Dr. Nedwill in acknowledgment was also received. A letter was read from the Sydenham Borough Council, drawing attention to the unsatisfactory condition of Jackson's creek. The inspector was instructed to request the health officer to inspect and report upon the locality. A letter was received from the Avon Road Board as to the side channels on the Caledonian road, Papanui, which were in a very foul and dangerous condition. Besolved, to write the Board intimating that the work seemed so urgent as to render it advisable to do what work was necessary without waiting for payment of contribution. Infectious diseases reported during the fortnight :—Typhoid, 1; Bcarlet fever, 2; diphtheria, 1. This concluded the business, Bud the Board adjourned.
