RARUS AND HIS RECORD.
[‘‘Turf, Field, and Farm.”]
In 1878 Earns was barred from everything except races against time. He succeeded on three different occasions in beating the 2:14 of Goldsmith Maid, which has stood unchallenged for years, and lowered the record to 2:131. He also trotted the three fastest heats on record—2:ls, 2:131, 2:13J —at Hartford. The 2:18 of Goldsmith Maid over a half mile track he reduced to 2:16, at Toledo. Besides these performances ho is credited with the fastest first, second, third, and fourth heats on record. His performances are familiar to all, and his recent sale to Mr Bonner for 36.000 dols closes the career of the fastest and best trotter the world has known.
