PARLIAMENTARY ITEMS.
[By Telegraph.] [feom ouh correspondents.] WELLINGTON, Novembers. It is stated that a representation has been made to the Government that the session should be concluded as soon as possible, and a special one convened about March or April next. It is also mooted that there should be a short adjournment to enable members to attend the Canterbury races. Neither idea is lit el / to be acted on. It is understood that when the House is in committee on the Qualification of Electors Bill Mr Montgomery will move an amendment to, the first sub-section of the second
clause—that while twelve months’ residence or possession for six months of a £25 freehold should qualify the possessor for registration, no person should be registered for more than one electorate in the colony. In reply to a deputation of Licensed Victuallers to-day, the Premier said the Government intended to give the whole question careful consideration during the recess with a view to introducing a comprehensive measure next session. The committee appointed to inquire into the bank arrangements of the Government sat to-day. They reported that it was inexpedient, in view of floating the five million loan, to make any alterations in the banking arrangements of the Government at present, and the proposal that the Government banking should be thrown open to public competition was negatived by 7 to 6.
