SALE OF PRIVILEGES.
The sale of privileges at the forthcoming Show of the Canterbury Agricultural Association and Metropolitan Meeting of the 0.J.0. took place yesterday at the Commercial Hotel. Mr J. Campbell acted as auctioneer, and there was a very large attendance, the room being filled. Mr Campbell dilated at some length on the fact of the Governor’s visit to Canterbury during the carnival week, and pointed out that a very large attendance of visitors might be expected to be present in Christchurch during the show and races. His eloquence must ■have had a great eSeot upon those present as the prices realised in the total far exceeded those of last year. The prices paid for the privileges were as follow, Mr Burnip being the successful tenderer for the committee’s tent at the Agricultural Show and Mr Messenger for tho Grand Stand at the 0.J.0. meeting : —Agricultural Show Booths, No. 2, publican’s, £77 10s, Mr Collier, Boyal George Hotel; No, 3, Mr E. Bavenhill, £7O ; No. 1, confectioner’s booth, Mr G. Woodham, £l6 j No. 2, Mr Gee, £l7; No. 3, Mr Olliver, £23 ; catalogues, £7l, Mr Hobbs. C.J.O. Melropolitan Meeting ; new stand per day, £SO, Mr J, Hurst; No. 1, publican’s booth, £36 per day, Mr Stenning ; No. 2 booth, £3B per day, Mr Bavenhill; No. 3 booth. £33 per day, Mr Stenning ; No. 4 booth, £27 10a per day, Mr E. Bavenhill ; confectioner's bco.hs, Nos. 1 and 2, £25 for tho three days, Mr Bashford ; horse-yards, £ll, Mr Inglis , right of sports, £42 10s, Messrs Hobbs and Dawson. The total result of the sale was £632. Last year the total was £523, so that this year tho total so £lO9 over that of 1878.
