[“Timaru Herald,” October 29.) A general meeting of the above club was held at the Grosvenor Hotel last evening. There were present—Messrs A. Turnbull (m the chair), E. Teschemakor, S. Bristol, A. W. Wright, H. Ford, A. St. G- Hamersley, G. Potts, W. O’Connell, J. Kia?, W. Gardiner, A. W. Money, A. Oox, A. Perry, Ashby, B. W. Shiel, E. E. Guinness, A. M. Giles, M. L. Mitton, F. Egan, Hon. R. Campbell, J. T. Ford, F. W. Dolamain, L. McPherson, McLaren, Q. Cooke, J. R. Raiue, P. Duncan, T. Hall, B. Richardson, juu., E. Eutherford, and D. Maclntyre. The hon. secretary, Mr Egan, read the balance sheet for the year, which showed tha
expenditure to be £748 6s sd, the receipts £713 3s 93, leaving a deficit of £35 2s od, Against the deficit, however, members’ subscriptions to the amouunt of £164 still remained to bo collected. He stated n ? less than eleven members of the club had positively declined to pay last year’s subscription. These gentlemen- having refused to pay, and at the same time not having given no ice of withdrawal, had placed the club in a very false position. In fact, if that kind of t mg ■were allowed to go on, there was no say mg the position the club might find itself in. He thought that a rule should be added, empowering the secretary to write to members who have not paid their subscriptions, and inform them that if their subscriptions were not paid by a certain date, their names would be removed as defaulters from the list of members. T m After a good deal of discussion, Mr J. X. Pord moved —“That all those members who have not paid their subscriptions bo written to by the secretary, and informed that if they do not pay their annual subscriptions by the 30th November they will be struck off the roll.” Mr Mitton seconded the motion. Mr Hamersley moved as an amendment “That all who have not paid their subscriptions should be written to, and failing Payment, that their names should be posted at Warner’s, Christchurch ; the Club, Dunedin ; and the Grosvenor, Timaru.” Mr O’Oonnel seconded the amendment. Mr J. T. Ford stroncly condemned the amendment, which he did not believe to be legal, as such posting would be libellous and unfair, considering that some of the members had merely ' paid their subscriptions from year to year, and had not been elected in a regular way. On the amendment being put, there voted for it 8 ; against it 15. The original motion was then put and sarried. The election of officers for the ensuing year was then hold, with the following result: President, Mr A. Turnbull (re-elected) ; vicepresident, Mr J. T. Ford ; committee—W. O. Smith, J. Brabozon, F. Delamam, W. 8. Lindsay, S. A. Bristol, F. A. Eaine, A. St. G. Hamersley, T. Teschemaker. It was resolved to hold the next annual steeplechase meeting at Timaru on the 24th May next. The meeting then adjourned till the time of the ensuing spring meeting at Christchurch.
