TIMAEU, October 29, The Agricultural Show-
The show to-day was largely attended. The cattle and horses are very good indeed ; the latter were particularly fine in the draught and entire classes. In sheep, the Hon. Bobt. Campbell takes most of the prizes, winning the champion cup offered for merinos. The Hereford cattle exhib ted by Mr A. Cox were much admired.
AUCKLAND, October 28.
A haystack, belonging to Mr G. Quick, was burnt at the North Shore this morning. Its value was about £2O, and it is believed to be uninsured.
No news has yet been received of the schooner Fiery Cross, now thirty-two days out from Oamaru. It is thought some casualty has befallen her.
Traiu Wreckers
The police are inquiring into what appears to have been a deliberate attempt to wreck _ a railway train on Sunday evening. The train to Onehunga waß just coming out of the Domain tunnel, when a sharp concussion, resulting apparently from some obstruction on the line, was felt. The train stopped, and the rails were examined, when it was discovered that a large stone weighing 101 b and two smaller ones had been placed on the line. Some children had been observed playing in the vicinity, aed the action may have been theirs, but the matter has caused an uneasy feeling in the public mind.

The exhibits of sheep, particularly' in merinos, were' very'-gdod, especially those of the Hon. B. Campbell, Mejsrs Pearson, and Rutherford. The lougwools were also very good, and generally the show in this'portion, although deficient in number of • entries as compared with last year's, will be fully equal in point : of quality. In the implement classes, Bold and Gray were nearly the only exhibitors, P. and D. Duncan and Miles, Archer and Co., having only a few exhibits. The weather is fine, and a large number of visitors have arrived to-day.
DUNEDIN, October 28. The fourth session of the fourth Synod of the Diocese of Otago opened here to day. Five of the female members of the Loftus Troupe have been summoned to the Police Court for having acted in an indecent manner in a burlesque last evening. BALCLUIHA, October 28. As Robert Houlihan, a settler at Te Houka, was returning home from the township at mid-day to-day in a spring cart, the hcrse shied at some bags lying at the side of the road, and turned against the embankment. The trap capsized, and Houlihan had his collarbone, arm, and two ribs broken. He was carried to Mr Tosh's house, and a medical man was soon in attendance.
