FOOT-RACING AT HORORATA.

A running match took place a few days ago on the " straight run it" of the race-course, distance one hundred yards, between a local ped., N. Chapman, and a comparatively fresh arrival in the colony, W. Bradshaw, who has certainly figured many times ere this one as a sprint runner. The race was well contested, Chapman winning by about half a yard, though many of the spectators hardly thought it was the true form of his antagonist. Mr Jas. Cordy acted as starter, Mr Digby as judge and referee. Subsequently, on the 25th October, W. Bradshaw again figured in a hundred yard race with W. Ford, to whom he gave ten yards start, and beat him by about a yard. Following this was a handicap for one hundred yards, for which four started—W. Bradshaw, scratch; A. Derrett, two yards; J. Reece, four yards; W. Ford, eight yards; J. Walker, four yards; which was again won by a yard by Bradshaw, Beece second. The last spin of the evening was a 440 yards race, between Bradshaw and A. Derrett. The latter came away at score, having a lead at one time of fully thirty yards. When about threequarters of the distance was covered, Bradshaw collared his opponent, and came on and won as he liked. The same starter and judge as above officiated.
