THE CITY GUARDS.

This company fired their first match this season for 500 rounds of ammunition, presented by the company with the following conditions, viz., Lieut. Wolfe and Sub-Lieut. Francis each to choose a team on the ground ; ranges 200 and 400 yards, five shots at each range ; any position ; the winning team to divide the ammunition.

Thirty men fell in on the ground at 5 a.m. The weather was anything but favorable, strong wind blowing at intervals across the range, making Bhooting very difficult for the younger members. However, everyone did their best. After the first range was fired, Sub-Lieut. Francis' team had scored eleven points more than their opponents, but at 400 yards Lieut. Wolfe's team took the lead, and won the match by twenty-two points. During the match the utmost good feeling prevailed amongst the men. Although 300 shots were fired there was not one dispute. LIEUT, WOIPK'S TEAM.
