THE ANGLERS' SOCIETY.
Tho Angling Society recently formed in Christ church met at the Commercial Hotel last evei ing, when there was a very fair attendance, amongst those present being Mr S. C. Farr, hon. sec. to the Acclimatisation Society; Dr. Campbell occupying the chair. The minutes of the previous meeting having been duly read and confirmed, the chairman stated that the provisional committee had met, and the secretary read a report of the resolution arrived at by the committee as to the constitution of the society, rules to be observed by sportsmen, &c. Mr Farr stated he had forwarded to the Government the resolution of the society as to trout fishing, and had received a reply to the effect that it was now too late in the year to alter tho Salmon and Trout Act, but that fishing with ground bait had been forbidden by Order in Council, and a Gazette was forwarded containing the regulation referred to. After going through the rules, the election of officers was proceeded with. The election of president was left to the committee. Dr. Campbell and the Eev. J. D. FergUßton were elected vice-presidents. Committee Dr. Chilton, Messrs W. S. Cook, E. F. Cogan, F. W. Hunt, G. G. Bridges, C. Coombes, and Major Cuningham. Several matters of a routine character were disposed of, and the meeting adjourned.
