FRIENDLY SOCIETIES' FETE, BOXING DAY.
The committee, consisting of delegates from the several amalgamated societies, met at the Foresters' Hall last evening, when a largo amount of detail in connection with the forthcoming fete was gone through. Tho secretary read a letter from the Agricultural and Pastoral Association, granting the use of thoir show grounds far the purposo of holding the fete. The sports committee- appointed at the last meeting brought up a preliminary report of sports, and it was dcoided to advertise a portion of same at once, so as to give intending competitors time to prepare themselves. The sports committee also reported that tho licensed victuallers had promised a cup, value about £25, to bo competed for in a one mile handicap flat race, open to all comers. It was decided to have a Richardson's show as usual. A sub-committee ara also at work arranging for a museum of curiosities. The trophies, value £7 7s, given by Dr. Campbell, the committee have decided to place to a race open to friendly societies only, one mile. Judging from the amounts to be given in prizes, there ought to be a very large entry for each of the big events. The next meeting of the committee will take place on Thursday, November 6th.
