PARLIAMENTARY ITEMS.

[BY TELEGBAFH.] WELLINGTON, October 20. The committee of management of the Opposition state that the rumors circulated in the papers regarding coalition are entirely without foundation. They say no member of their party ever contemplated such a movement, nor will any one of them agree to coalition. It was reported this morning that the Government had made overtures to the Opposition to form a Ministry in this way, ■wwh Mr Whitaker as Premier, and ho and "MV Macandrew to choose from their respective parties alternate Ministers, but their proposal was rejected. It is understood that the Government remain firm in their determination to keep back the no confidence motion until Buch time as their measures on reform have been passed or negatived, perfectly regardless whether the Opposition grant supplies or not. Sir W. Fitzherbert gave an official dinner to the Legislative Council on Saturday evening. The Govornor and various councillors were present. The affoir was exceedingly formal. At a meeting of the Government party this afternoon thirty-eight attended, and three more were represented. The political position was fully discussed, and several courses of action considered. Eventually it was unanimously resolved that Government should insist on their measures of electoral reform being passed into law, and be prepared to have recourse to all constitutional expedients for that purpose. The meeting was characterised by great determination and unanimity.
